Storytime with the Author and yoga pose Demonstration (30 – 45 min estimate)
Story time has never been so fun and interactive! Author SonJoria Sydnor will engage the audience with a live reading of “Our Family’s Doing Yoga” and demonstrate 5 poses for participants to try followed by a Q&A session. Host may present the author with a predetermined list of questions prior to the event. Q & A will be facilitated by the host. Author will sign books purchased in advance or on site.
Yoga for Students and Athletes (1 hour estimate)
Motivate your students to move, increase flexibility, balance and focus in this fun and physical class. Whether for an in school, after school or athletic program, sessions can be tailored to meet the clients needs and are designed to engage students and athletes of various ages and levels. The instructor will lead a 30 – 60 minute yoga class that includes breathwork, stretching, poses and activities to enhance confidence levels and teambuilding.
Community kids and Family Yoga (1 hour estimate)
Keynote and Panel Speaking ( 1 – 2 hour estimate)
SonJoria Sydnor has over 15 years of experience as a mother, early childhood development educator and yoga instructor. She is passionate about the importance and benefits of representation specific but not exclusive to Black kids and families. Due to her personal experiences with PMAD, SonJoria also advocates for mental well-being for women. She offers a diverse perspective on these topics and is available for speaking events focused on inclusivity and well-being.
When Black Kids Do Yoga Workshop (2 hour estimate)
Diversity and inclusion is inevitable in the discussion around children’s mental health. Dive into the importance of Black kids seeing themselves represented in the practice of yoga and wellness in this workshop where professionals gain a glimpse into cultural norms and challenges. Develop an understanding of how yoga can be used as a tool to help manage the negative effects of racism and childhood trauma specific to Black children and gather ideas on ways to expand representation through books, music, products and resources to build an inclusive learning environment.
Teaching SEL, Inclusivity and Self Care for Educators Workshop (3 hour estimate)
In a post pandemic era, children’s mental health has become a crisis and support for students can take a toll on educators. Dive into the importance of being inclusive in your classrooms while supporting students in the areas of Social Emotional Learning. In this workshop professionals gain a glimpse into common challenges that affect children of color and participate in activities while exploring resources to put into practice. Gain an understanding of how yoga can be used as a tool to help manage the negative effects of systematic racism and gather ideas on ways to expand representation through books, music, products and resources to build an inclusive learning environment.
